“Technology, when applied thoughtfully, can help communities better understand and respond to the natural world — creating solutions that protect both people and wildlife.”

David Hammerstein
Technical Advisor

David Hammerstein is an IT engineer with a strong interest in applying technology to real-world conservation challenges. His connection to ECOWICE began after traveling to Tanzania, where he visited several national parks, including Katavi National Park. Experiencing Tanzania’s wildlife and landscapes firsthand inspired him to contribute his technical expertise to support conservation efforts.

David plays a key role in strengthening ECOWICE’s technology systems, particularly in the development of tools that help reduce human–wildlife conflict. He has supported the organization with equipment such as camera traps and has contributed to the design and development of AI-supported early warning systems that help communities detect and respond to elephant movements more effectively.

As Technical Advisor, David provides guidance on technology, communication systems, and data-driven approaches, helping integrate practical engineering solutions into community-based conservation work. His contributions support ECOWICE’s goal of combining local knowledge with innovative tools to improve safety, protect livelihoods, and enhance wildlife conservation.
