Meet Our Supporter

Behind every ECOWICE initiative is a community of supporters who believe in a future where people and wildlife thrive together. Our supporters come from different backgrounds and places, but they share a commitment to conservation, education, and community-led solutions in wildlife-affected landscapes.

Through their generosity, ECOWICE works with communities living near protected areas to reduce human–wildlife conflict, strengthen livelihoods, inspire young environmental stewards, and protect biodiversity.

Karen Matteson

ECOWICE Supporter | Community Conservation & Education

Karen Matteson first visited ECOWICE in early 2023, spending time in communities surrounding Mikumi  National Park. During her visit, she met with students, farmers, and community members, observed beehive fence initiatives, and learned about village savings and loans groups supporting local livelihoods.

Inspired by the integrated approach ECOWICE uses, linking conservation, education, and community well-being, Karen became a committed supporter of our work. Since her visit, she has contributed through regular donations that help sustain multiple ECOWICE programs.

Her support has contributed to:

  • Strengthening conservation and environmental education

  • Supporting community-based conservation initiatives

  • Providing tools and resources that help communities coexist with wildlife

“$100 to the Save Wild Club. I’m so happy to see photos of the Environmental Learning Lab and the impact it’s having on students!”
