ECOWICE Advances Sesame Farming as a Practical Pathway for Human–Elephant Coexistence Near Mikumi National Park
In communities bordering Mikumi National Park, where elephants and farms share the same landscape, ECOWICE has been working alongside farmers to test and strengthen sesame farming as a practical solution to human–elephant conflict.
By 2025, this effort is showing clear progress. Farmers cultivating sesame are experiencing fewer crop losses from elephants while gaining a more reliable source of income, helping families meet daily needs and rebuild confidence in farming within wildlife corridors.
